Finally going to see Iced Earth.......it's been a loooong time waiting. If you don't know who they are, well, you must be under a rock, but seriously, they are amazing. I've not been taken by a band like this since 1981, when I discovered Iron Maiden, (though it was '82--the day NOTB came out that I was kicked straight in the balls as the opening chords of Invaders utterly destroyed me).
Iced Earth took all the best of thrash and fused it with Sabbath/Maiden/Priest and made an alloy of metal that hadn't been discovered, IMHO. I think they're better than most of the thrash bands and that's saying A LOT when therein lies Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica. I know everyone won't agree, but that's cool, it's just one man's opinion and all I care to get is respect...Cheers!!!!
